IL VECCHIO ORSO E IL CORVO
THE OLD BEAR AND THE RAVEN
C'era una volta un vecchio orso, che era un grande sciamano. Egli teneva appesa alla sua tenda una sacca piena di amuleti magici, che nessuno poteva toccare.
Once upon a time, there was an old bear that was a great shaman. He kept a sack full of magic charms hanging from his tent, which no one could touch.
Un giorno l'orso scoprì che la volpe si aggirava intorno alla sua tenda, l'acchiappò e le staccò la coda.
One day, the bear discovered that the fox was circling his tent, he caught him and tore off his tail.
La volpe, non avendo più la coda, ululava tutte le notti e da allora gli altri animali non riuscirono più a dormire. Decisero quindi di riunirsi, ma nessuno aveva il coraggio di andare a prendere la coda nella tenda dell'orso, tranne il corvo.
The fox, being without a tail, howled every night and from that time on the other animals could no longer sleep. They decided to meet, but no one ever had the courage to get the fox's tail in the bear's tent, except for the Raven.
Infatti il corvo si offrì volontario e tutti gli animali furono d'accordo. Il corvo prese la canoa, attraversò il fiume e si recò nell'accampamento dell'orso. L'orso lo accolse e mangiarono insieme. Il corvo iniziò a raccontargli delle storie.
In fact, the Raven volunteered and all the animals agreed. The Raven took the canoe, crossed the river and reached the bear's camp. The bear welcomed him and they ate together. The Raven began to tell him stories.
L'orso annoiato si addormentò. Intanto, dopo vari tentativi, il corvo riuscì a frugare nella sacca degli amuleti magici e trovò la coda della volpe. Immediatamente scappò, ma fuori della tenda trovò ad aspettarlo il nipote dell'orso, che invano provò a fermarlo.
The bear got bored and fell asleep. In the meantime, after several attempts, the Raven was able to rummage in the sack with the magic charms and found the fox's tail. He immediately ran away but found the bear's grandson outside the tent who tried in vain to stop him.
L'orso era molto arrabbiato, perché il corvo si era ripreso la coda della povera volpe. Per punire tutti gli animali l'orso rubò il sole dal cielo e scese l'oscurità e non ci fi più il giorno.
The bear was very angry because the Raven had taken back the poor fox's tail. To punish all the animals, the bear stole the sun from the sky and darkness fell and there was no longer day.
Gli animali, nell'oscurità, non vedendo nulla non riuscirono più a procurarsi il cibo. Solo la lince e il gufo riuscivano a vedere, procurando il cibo per tutti; ma, stanchi, dopo un po' non ce la fecero più.
The animals couldn't see in the dark and were unable to find food. Only the lynx and the owl were able to see and found food for everyone; but after a while they grew tired and were unable to do it anymore.
Il corvo decise di partire nuovamente per l'accampamento dell'orso, per riprendersi il sole rubato.
The Raven decided to head for the bear's camp once again to take back the stolen sun. Meanwhile, at the camp the bear's grandson wanted to play ball with the sun inside his grandfather's tent. He was able to convince him with shrieks and tantrums.
All'accampamento,intanto, il nipote dell'orso voleva giocare a palla con il sole nella tenda del nonno. Riuscì a convincerlo a forza di strilli e capricci.
Finally the little bear could play ball with the sun in the grandfather's tent.
Finalmente il piccolo orso può giocare a palla nella tenda del nonno, col sole.
While the little bear was playing ball with the sun he let it escape outside the tent.
Il piccolo orso, mentre giocava a palla con il sole, se lo fece scappare fuori dalla tenda. Immediatamente il corvo, che aveva sorvolato l'accampamento, si riprese il sole.
The Raven, who had been watching, immediately took back the sun.
Il sole venne rimesso al suo posto in cielo e tutti gli animali festeggiarono.
The sun was put back in its place in the sky and all the animals celebrated.
