Ce l'abbiamo fatta! Uno dei nostri principali obiettivi e' stato raggiunto. Siamo la prima barca italiana e i primi italiani in barca a vela ad arrivare qui attraverso il Passaggio a Nord Ovest. Siamo fieri del nostro successo, specialmente perche' quest'anno la situazione del ghiaccio e' realmente difficile. Oh, tra l'altro siamo anche solo la seconda barca ad arrivare qui quest'anno. Il ghiaccio che scende dalla calotta artica da nord ovest sta bloccando i canali fra le isole con una coltre pesante, a differenza dagli ultimi anni, malgrado il riscaldamento che ci confermano qui essere visibile anno dopo anno. Vi racconteremo nei prossimi giorni i dettagli della nostra navigazione, a volte molto difficile, e della nostra decisione di forzare il passaggio attraverso una zona di ghiaccio a 7/10 per raggiungere l'acqua libera piu' avanti (4/10 e'considerato il limite della navigabilita' per barche come la nostra e la zona da traversare era di trenta miglia). Per il momento vi racconteremo solo della rinnovata sorpresa ricevuta dal meraviglioso popolo Inuit che incontriamo lungo il Passaggio. Ieri appena arrivati (dopo un breve riposo) siamo scesi a terra per presentarci alle autorita' (pura cortesia) e per informarci su gasolio, acqua, docce e tutte quelle cosette di cui sentiamo la mancanza dopo una lunga permanenza in mare. I primissimi che abbiamo incontrato sulla spiaggia mentre avevamo ancora gli stivali in acqua - loro che arrivavano lungo la spiaggia su un quad, di uso comune qui - ci hanno accolto con un caldo e spontaneo "benvenuti a Gjøa Haven!" Non uno di quelli che abbiamo incontrato dopo ha mancato di accoglierci nello stesso modo! Sembra che tutti qui sapessero gia' del nostro arrivo e volessero farci sentire benvenuti. Bene! Ci sono riusciti al di la' di ogni aspettativa! We have done it! One of our main goals have been reached. We are the first Italian boat and the first Italians on a sailboat to arrive here through the Northwest Passage. We are proud of our achievement and especially so because this year the ice situation is really tough. By the way: we are also the second boat to arrive in Gjøa Haven this year. The ice coming from the North Pole cap from north west is blocking the channels among the islands with a heavy layer, different from the last few years, despite the warming that we have been confirmed is taking place year after year. We will tell you in the next days the details of our at times difficult sailing and of our decision to force the passage trough a zone of 7/10 of ice to reach the open water beyond (4/10 is considered our limit and we had to go through 30 miles of it). For the moment we will tell you of the renewed amazement we got from the marvelous Inuit people we meet along our passage. After a short rest, yesterday, as we arrived, we went ashore to make ourselves known by the authorities and to enquiry for fuel, water, showers and all the other small things we need after a long period at sea. The very first people we met on the beach with our boots still in the water, they coming along the sand with a quad, the usual vehicle here, greeted us with a warm "welcome to Gjøa Haven". Not a single individual thereafter failed to greet us in the same way! It seems that everybody here knew already about our arrival and wanted us to feel welcome. Well: they succeeded beyond expectation.
